[CTPP] Recorded webinars on Census Bureau data ferrett and AFF2

Thank you to everyone who attended yesterday's webinar. We covered a LOT of material, so you may want to review some of it again! Thank you especially to Michelle Jiles from the Census Bureau for conducting the training. Please note that in addition to LISTENING and WATCHING these archived sessions, there are MANY useful files in the "download" boxes. You can access these boxes through the recording and download the files to your computer. For example, Michelle Jiles' ppts with notes are available, and may help you walk through a Data Ferrett or AFF2 session. Table B25024 provides units in structure and has fields like single unit attached, detached, mobile home, etc. I am assuming that you are requiring this data for modeling purposes. The 2006-2010 data is available at the census block group level. We use this data for our Activity Based Model. Do you mean tenure (own/rent) or structure type (single family, apartment, etc.)? For tenure, table B25008 in the ACS provides total population in occupied housing units.by tenure Dividing that by the count of occupied housing units by tenure (B25002) will give you pph by tenure. Or, you can just look at B25010. Similarly, B25033 gives you total population in occupied housing units by tenure by units in structure. Divide by units in structure counts (by tenure, or add them together) to get pph by units in structure. Hope this helps. [CTPP] AFF2 tip

I just wanted to share a tiny nugget of wisdom I just learned on AFF2: Have you ever wondered how/why it is that you sometimes get grayed-out 'search results' boxes? At least one reason is that you have selected a geography for which data is not available. If you have selected multiple geographies, and only one of them is a 'data not available' geography, AFF2 will still give you a grayed-out search result box, and you have to start over. There is no prompt telling you when data is not available for a geographic selection, so far as I can tell. I hope this helps other users. I tried sending an e-mail to AFF2 through the 'feedback' prompt but first it told me my message was too long, then when I reduced it to within the it just refused to take my feedback anyway. [CTPP] 2006-2008 CTPP Place code

Hi again, I've been working with the CTPP Place-level data lately and i noticed that the Place codes in the 2006-2008 data have changed from the 1990 and 2000 data. Has anyone dealt with this? Any ideas on how to reconcile them? Thanks, nick

[CTPP] ACS table list

I like to have a paper copy of the table list at my desk, rather than to try to use the keyword search on AFF2, or to find the ACS documentation somewhere on the Census Bureau website. Several people helped put this abbreviated list together. Thank you to Nathan Erlbaum for recommending that it be shared with the listserv. Remember that B08xxxxx and C08xxxxx are the "journey to work" tables, but also include household tables such as: Household size by Vehicles available; Household size by Number of Workers in Household; and Number of Workers in Household by Vehicles Available.
