Hi, all
Eric Kramer from Pima Association of Governments developed a database
application for those interested in creating "Deep Links" to tables on
AFF2. Eric just did a presentation to introduce his access based
application in this afternoon's " Deep Linking with Census AFF" Webinar.
For those of you who are interested to download and use this application,
you can download it from Cambridge Systematics website:
Here is the link:

Considering attending.
Will this presentation cover both "deep links" (web url syntax) AND also the new API offerings from Census?
Or only the "deep links"?
Thanks for any info.

Hello,
Maybe someone out there can help me. I am trying to find the 2000 Census Urbanized Area shapefiles so we can do a comparison of the 2000 vs. 2010 urbanized area boundaries. I have been searching all over the Census website and they have had great success in hiding this data from view. If anyone out there has the link to where you can download the 2000 urbanized area boundaries I would greatly appreciate it!

1. The 2010 census doesn't directly contain the information needed to determine single family and multi family dwelling units. A better indicator is the use of parcel data along with 911 data to determine single family and multi family dwelling units.
2. The 2010 census didn't collect the auto ownership data that was collected in 2000. However, the use of the DHSMV data will get you the exact auto ownership by address.

I am trying to find out if Single Family and Multi-Family population, housing and auto availability are available for download from the 2010 Census. I have not been able to find this info at a level less than the Tract level.

I just wanted to chime in with this discussion. In my region (Little Rock AR
MSA) it's clear that the city estimates are heavily driven by census county
estimates. The estimates for the largest five cities in our central county
all show 0.9% growth 2010-2011. This is absurd; these five cities varied in
the 2000-2010 interval between outright decline in one case and 63 percent
growth in another. The building permits and all other local evidence
suggests that they are not all growing at 0.9 percent in unison.
Therefore I express my agreement that there's something very wrong with the
place/MCD estimates released on July 1. Since these estimates are
fundamentally misleading, they are worse than nothing at all.

The bottom line here is that the Census Bureau has abandoned its previous
methods for calculating the subcounty estimates. For 2011, they basically
carried the county % change in household population down to the sub-county
units (MCDs and places), apparently holding the GQ pop count the same as the
2010 count (most of the time).
In my personal view, coming from a strong MCD state, it would have been
better if they had just not done 2011 estimates at all.

This is an interesting article Wendell Cox sent me from a friend of
friend. We all remember when the Census Bureau changed from using
county based estimates to using sub-county estimates in 2009 which are
then used to factor and weight the ACS. I had thought the process of
going from a county to a sub-county was a little more sophisticated but
maybe its not.
