In viewing some of the Michigan UA boundaries, I've found that some current MPO modeled areas bleed into other UAs. For instance, a portion of the Holland model area is now in the Grand Rapids UA. Also, the Muskegon UA now extends into a county that is not part of its model area. So, what are the implications of such cases? What is the process for MPOs to reconcile their boundaries in such cases, or should one expect no changes. I'd appreciate any clarifications on this issue. I agree Brian I too had someone do the conversion in ArcInfo and it matched the results from TIGER reader in ArcView 3.2. Although the field name is incorrect it appears the underlying data maybe correct. I tried using Tiger Reader in ArcView 3.2a and have had no luck. The UA data record also appears to be 1990, not 2000. We have cross-border issues and split urbanized areas and would really like to see the new boundaries before the Fall. Someone out there must know of a fairly simple process(or develop a simple process) to convert the boundary data into an ArcView shape file, considering the proliferation of ESRI products. I am, however, puzzled by the following: a) if this Reader only extracts 1990 data, why was one of the layers titled ALR/LUCA 2000; and b) after reprojecting the extracted UA90 layer and overlaying my block2000 census data, why do the boundaries match up almost exactly (except for a couple of donut holes) ? Could it be possible the Reader actually extracted the 2000 data, but is using the old field naming convention? Hi Kendis, The formatting for the records in the UA TIGER files are a little different than the previous release so you won't get the correct results using the TIGER tools in Arc 8. If you do convert the UA TIGER files with ArcTools you will notice that the first 4 of the 5 digits for the 2000 UA Code end up in field UA90 and last digit in UR90. You can see why this happens if you compare the formatting of the ArcInfo result for Record Type A to the Census Documentation for Record Type A (Chapter 6, p.12). In other words UA90+UR90=UA. So, you can get a look at the Urban Areas if you relate Record Type A to the Census Geography using CENPOLID and concatenate fields UA90 and UR90. But I personally am going to hold off doing much more work with the UA TIGER files until ESRI updates the conversion tools.
