OnTheMap Update and 2020 LODES Data <https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2023/onthemap-2020-lodes-dat…>
April 4 — The U.S. Census Bureau released an updated version of its Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics (LEHD) Origin-Destination Employment Statistics (LODES) <https://lehd.ces.census.gov/data/#lodes> data product. The 8.0 version of LODES add data for 2020 and recast all historical LODES years into 2020 census blocks. The OnTheMap <https://onthemap.ces.census.gov/> application is updated to include these new LODES tabulations that will contain 19 years of data from 2002 to 2020.

Alas, the r-package “lehdr” needs to be updated by the package authors. They probably need to specify if you’re looking to use 2020 Census geography (LODES8) or older, 2010 Census geography (LODES7). The lehdr package works great with LODES7!!! (I tested my existing r scripts to use lehdr. It’s not working for year 2020, yet.)
The lehdr package authors are aware of the issue and are on it.)
This is like the old U2 song “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” - - I’m trying to find the release schedule for the 2022 American Community Survey. The Census Bureau’s website can be a challenge!

Subject: MTAP Steering Call today - Census Bureau discussion
Hi Penelope and Kyla,
I was remiss in sharing this earlier, but at the MTAP Steering Committee call this afternoon at 2 pm, our main discussion is about the Census Bureau urban area redesignations, and implications for public transit. John Giorgis, FTA, and Chris Zeilinger, CTAA, will be sharing updates and their analysis.
If you or any members would be interested in listening in, you can register for the zoom meeting via this link:
https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUtfuCpqTMoHtSc62Z-6ZyyeSn2V6MbW0…
The Census discussion will likely run for the first 45 mins of the meeting.
Best,
Rebecca
Hello CTPP Community, following up on my posts a couple months ago about the CTPP Data API hackathon, I'd like to formally announce the winners, selected by an awesome panel of experts:
* First Place: Suzanne Childress and Michael Jensen from PSRC submitted a web-based application called "CTPP Explorer" that maps CTPP commute mode data for the Puget Sound region. What really impressed the judges was that they also developed an R package that makes it simple to pull CTPP data from the new API. You can check out the code here: https://github.com/psrc/ctpp-explorer
* Second Place: Steve Hossack and Mark Jackman from the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) developed an ArcGIS-based web application using a geoprocessing script that allows the user to select a single CTPP TAZ as a travel origin and visualize the amount of commute flow from that origin to all destination TAZs on the map. See this Github link<https://github.com/shossack/OCTACtppTazOriginDestination> for code and other details.
* Third Place: Zihao Jin from CTPS developed a flexible data visualization tool using Python that can be applied to make comparisons by pulling CTPP records for multiple geographical areas. You can contact them at zjin(a)ctps.org for more information.
All of these folks did a fantastic job and contributed valuable feedback that will help AASHTO and their software development contractor, Macrosys, make the new API even better when it is officially released. A new web-based graphical user interface for accessing CTPP data is also on the way—sign up at the link below to register as a Beta tester:
