Yes. There are data in the ACS. However, the disability definitions and
questions have changed since 2000 and in previous additions of the
ACS. The latest change occurred in 2008. Because of this the
disability data are only available in the 1-year file (at the moment).
The new 3-year file should have the disability data (2008-2010). The
ACS data are not comparable to the Census 2000 data.

Louis, not all tables in the 2005-2009 ACS are available by block group - including the ones in Segments 1-8. To find details on what tables are available by block group, take a look at the 2005-2009 ACS technical documentation at http://www2.census.gov/acs2009_5yr/summaryfile/ACS_2005-2009_SF_Tech_Doc.pdf - the chart starting on page 42 of the pdf will detail the geography for each table. This chart also shows which tables are provided via American Factfinder.

Subject: [CTPP] 2005-2009 ACS data
Hello,
I am trying to download 5-year block group data from the 2005-2009 ACS for Colorado. I have noticed many of the text sequence files are empty. It looks like the first eight tables are all empty.
Specifically, I am trying to get block group data for sequence number 1 (e20095co0001000.txt).
I looked at other states and these files are also empty. Am I looking in the wrong directory for block group data for these tables?
Any help would be appreciated.

To add to Nancy's comment, it is fairly easy to create Household income x HH size variable from ACS PUMS. Variables are NP (number of persons in household) and HINCP(Household income (past 12 months)).

1. Krishnan, you are correct, B19019 is the only table combining income and household size. I'm not familiar with "IPF" but you could create a tabulation of household ranges by household size using the PUMS file for the ACS. As a side note, Table B19019 is not available in the 5-year ACS. The 5-year has only B19119, Family income by family size. So, you cannot even get table B19019 for places below 20,000 pop.

This is a two part question:
1. AFAIK there is no direct Household income x HH size table available in the ACS. The only thing that is available is Table B19019 (Median HH income x HH Size). Am i correct? And the only way to obtain the desired HH Inc x HH size table is via IPF. If others have a better idea please let me know.
2. Has anyone written the R equivalent of the eak_0{n}.sas to read the summary files available here: http://www2.census.gov/acs2005_2009_5yr/summaryfile/UserTools/? If anyone has, do you mind sharing with me?

Hi Everyone -
The AFF2 training session is now confirmed. Please use the link below
to register for the session. I have reserved 220 spaces.
https://www.nhi.fhwa.dot.gov/resources/webconference/web_conf_learner_re
g.aspx?webconfid=23454
After you register, you will get the meeting URL and the telephone
number.
Michelle Jiles on the Census Bureau's ACS staff will conduct the
training. Michelle previously worked for the Census Bureau's
Journey-to-work and Migration Branch, so she is familiar with the CTPP
user community.
I have asked her to cover examples using both tables from ACS and 2010
Census SF 1. She will mention but not provide training on the ACS
system to download files. The Block Group data from ACS is not
available via AFF2 but ONLY through the download system. If there is
time at the end, she can discuss this more fully, or else, we will
arrange for another training session.
We will have plenty of time for questions and answers.
Ed Christopher will be in charge of the session. Ed will try to record
the session, but we can't guarantee success because it is not something
we do on a regular basis. I'll ask the webmeeting people for help in
advance! Because of the difficulty in scheduling this session, I will
not be able to attend.

Ahhh-Sorry - I checked on AFF and table B19019 is not available there - I forgot that some tables are on the Summary File but not AFF even when it is not a block group table. Very confusing. From now on I'll check the documentation first. :)

Thanks for the pointer to the PUMS. I had overlooked it. BTW there is 5 year B19019 table available and here is a link to the same table data ( http://bit.ly/q3ONvw ) from AZ (just a couple of counties 2005-2009). Apologize for the same font size, i just tried to fit it in one page.
