This is a basic introduction to the CTPP data access software and functionality. You will learn how to register/log in, how to access a table, how to manipulate data, or move/swap dimensions within a table, how to download the data and more. [CTPP] question about HUD Low-Mod census tabulation

I know this isn't a CTPP question- but I'm looking for the HUD Low Mod Income tabulation from post 2000 census at the census tract level. It seems like I read an email about this recently, but can't find it, and can't remember what I read. Has Census done their special tabulation for HUD at the census tract level from ACS? Are they going to? If not, what are people using for low/moderate income data for HUD related programs that require this? Census Bureau field names are concatenation of the ACS base table ID + the line or item within the table. Labels for the field names can be found in the Census provided SAS programming, as Nancy G suggests. Or maybe more accessible - if you are not a SAS user - is the lookup table of all ACS data elements. Find this at: * For ACS 2008-10... http://www2.census.gov/acs2010_3yr/summaryfile/Sequence_Number_and_Table_Nu… * For ACS 2005-09... http://www2.census.gov/acs2009_5yr/summaryfile/Sequence_Number_and_Table_Nu… * Prior vintages (2008 and earlier) have same lookup, but the file had a different name: "merge_5_6.XLS" See http://www2.census.gov/acs2008_3yr/summaryfile/merge_5_6.xls If you want "intuitive" names, then you can develop a process or script to rename field (or calculate fields) with names to your liking (or custom calculations). I just finished, this morning, assembling the 150 pieces of the new ACS 3-year data. You can find the labels for every cell in the ACS Summary File in the Census Bureau's ACS FTP site. They provide SAS input statements and labels in their UserTools folder - ftp://ftp2.census.gov/acs2009_5yr/summaryfile/UserTools/ The file is called SF20095YR_SAS.zip<ftp://ftp2.census.gov/acs2009_5yr/summaryfile/UserTools/SF20095YR_SAS.zip> Even if you do not have SAS, you can just change the file extension to "txt" and open it in Excel. Remove everything but the labels then A simple 'text-to-columns' procedure in Excel and you will have a "look-up" table with the label in one column and the label in the next. Hope this helps. SAVE THE DATE: WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 16th 2011, 10:00-11:00AM EST A Webinar from the National Center for Transit Research's Transit GIS Clearinghouse: Real-Time Bus Tracking and Customer Information in New York City: MTA's Open Approach to Doing it Faster and Cheaper Webinar Objectives: The objectives of this webinar are to: * Inform other members of the transit and agency community regarding MTA's approach to developing and implementing a real-time bus tracking and customer information system at reduced costs and schedules * Offer lessons learned to peers considering a similar approach * Elicit interest among other agencies for co-investment in the open source, software package powering the back end of MTA's system Webinar Description: This Webinar will explain Metropolitan Transit Authority's (MTA) approach to developing its real-time bus tracking and customer information system (branded "MTA Bus Time") for its fleet of 6,000 buses and 2.5 million daily, bus riders in New York City. Mr. Michael Frumin will discuss the technical and procurement/contracting strategies that are allowing MTA to achieve its customer-facing and internal objectives for the project. These customer-facing objectives include minimizing the time to deliver the MTA Bus Time service to customers, and making the information widely available to all customers wherever, whenever, and however they may want it. The internal objectives are primarily to minimize both the capital and whole-life cost of the project, as well as to maintain the flexibility to change the system over time as technologies and needs evolve. The strategies to achieve these objectives are many. Among the most critical are the adoption of mobile and internet-based delivery of customer information; provisioning of free, publically available developer API's; use of open standard interfaces and commercially available technology components; sharing of on-bus infrastructure between projects and systems; open source software licensing; and MTA adopting the role of the overall systems integrator willing to contract with multiple vendors. To add a bit more information, data about the low to moderate income population, which is calculated for HUD from a special Census tabulation, is available from the 2006-8 ACS at the subcounty level from the 2006-8 ACS. As Guy notes below, it will not be available at the Census Tract level until next Spring. Based on my reading of the linked Powerpoint, lowmod data will not be available any longer at the blockgroup level. However, grant recipients can choose to "to conduct their own surveys at the block level". Current low mod data can downloaded from here: http://www.huduser.org/portal/datasets/cp/CHAS/data_download_chas.html For documentation and other lowmod data sets, search HUDUser.org for "CHAS data".
