I just wanted to share a tiny nugget of wisdom I just learned on AFF2:
Have you ever wondered how/why it is that you sometimes get grayed-out
'search results' boxes? At least one reason is that you have selected a
geography for which data is not available. If you have selected multiple
geographies, and only one of them is a 'data not available' geography, AFF2
will still give you a grayed-out search result box, and you have to start
over. There is no prompt telling you when data is not available for a
geographic selection, so far as I can tell.
I hope this helps other users. I tried sending an e-mail to AFF2 through the
'feedback' prompt but first it told me my message was too long, then when I
reduced it to within the it just refused to take my feedback anyway.
Evidently they don't really want feedback. Given the abysmal quality of
their product, I can see why.

Hi again,
I've been working with the CTPP Place-level data lately and i noticed that the Place codes in the 2006-2008 data have changed from the 1990 and 2000 data. Has anyone dealt with this? Any ideas on how to reconcile them?
Thanks,
nick
I like to have a paper copy of the table list at my desk, rather than to
try to use the keyword search on AFF2, or to find the ACS documentation
somewhere on the Census Bureau website. Several people helped put this
abbreviated list together. Thank you to Nathan Erlbaum for recommending
that it be shared with the listserv.
Remember that B08xxxxx and C08xxxxx are the "journey to work" tables,
but also include household tables such as:
Household size by Vehicles available;
Household size by Number of Workers in Household; and
Number of Workers in Household by Vehicles Available.
And don't forget to sign up for our Dec 19 webinar on Data Ferrett and
more tricks with AFF2.

For this link to work, you need the address to include all the way to
"=23950". Sometimes the listserv software breaks up the link and
doesn't have the entire address strung together.

HI Everyone - At last, I have a link so that you can register for the
next webinar on Census Bureau data access software. This time, it will
focus on Data Ferrett.
Michelle Jiles, from the Census Bureau will be conducting the training.

Today i got this question from an MPO friend of mine and was hoping others
on the list could help me. Anyone experiencing similar issues.

We have experienced the frustration of block boundaries between the 2000
Census and the 2010 Census being dramatically different within our
urbanized area. Our GIS experts have had a difficult time assembling and
reconciling the differences in order for us to simply compare data on a
block-by block basis. Do you know if this is unique to us or are we in
the same boat as others?

We've had the same problem- had the same problem in 2000 with changes from the 1990 block too. Sometimes for file with varying polygonal boundaries (TAZ adjustments, block groups, etc), but we've intersected geographies and generated what I call a "pieces-parts file" that has a ton of little parts, and then use the proportion of these new polygons to reallocate data among them and then recompile them. It's not the best way to do things obviously since the data are not really uniformly distributed, but it isolates the ones that are different so you have a smaller set that needs further investigation.

Appropos of this entire discussion: it sounds to
me like these problems, if they are problems, are
the consequence of the 2000-09 effort to realign
TIGER. That was the major MAF-TIGER upgrade
effort of the decade. Presumably the new lines
are (a) more accurate, and (b) won't change again.

The 2006-2010 ACS data will use 2010 census geography. However, urban areas will still be those defined based on Census 2000 data (2010 Census urban areas were not available when geographic information was delivered for ACS tabulation). 2010-based PUMAs also were not available (these are being defined now). Metropolitan and micropolitan areas will be those in existence as of December 2009.
