Statistics will be available for every county in the U.S. showing the number of workers that commute in or out and which counties those commuters travel to and from. Additional reports and tables, based on statistics from the American Community Survey, examine U.S. residents traveling across county and state lines to work. Specifically, the products present U.S. workers who have commutes of 60 minutes or longer and workers who have "mega commutes" of at least 90 minutes and 50 miles. Statistics will also be available for every county in the U.S. that show the number of workers that commute into or out of the county and which counties those commuters travel to and from. The reports and tables will be posted to the Census Bureau's embargo site at noon EST Monday, March 4. The public release will be at 12:01 a.m. EST Tuesday, March 5. Wire and distribution services are prohibited from distributing embargoed news releases and data files to subscribers before the public release date and time. [CTPP] May Issue of CTPP Status Report

The 4 items that the Census has listed as the topics of greatest concern are: 1. Plumbing (running water, toilet, bath, sink) 2. Income 3. Journey to Work, especially Departure time to Work 4. [CTPP] Census Briefs from Brian McKenzie

Today the Census Bureau released a new Brief on non-motorized travel, written by our friend Brian McKenzie. http://www.census.gov/prod/2014pubs/acs-25.pdf?eml=gd&utm_medium=email&utm_… Although these FHWA and AASHTO produced Profiles use older ACS data, they include more geographic choices than reflected in the new Census Brief: http://download.ctpp.transportation.org/profiles_2012/transport_profiles.ht… We are now working on an updated set of profile sheets using more current ACS data. The Journey to Work questions are being looked at critically, with special threat to the time departing for work question. At this time, it would be very helpful if you or your staff could provide Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) (who are responsible for the DOT defense of the questions) any support in the form of how ACS data are used to fulfill mandates, especially relating the Census ACS "time of departure for work" question to MAP-21, NEPA and other mandates.
