Apologies for cross posting. This comes via Andy Rohne. I think it will
benefit the CTPP, TMIP and H+T community since there will data users from
different industries and we can learn from each other. The good part is
that it is not another email list but rather a Q&A site where answers are
voted up or down and people have an interest in giving credible answers to
maintain and increase their reputation. I use stack overflow extensively
and have found it to be extremely useful.

Subject: Re: [CTPP] Census 2010 data available at the new PUMA level?
Hi, Chuck - congrats on the retirement! Totally jealous!
The word we have received is that the new 2010 PUMAs will be in the 2012 ACS data files to be released later this year. That is the same time we should get the data for the new urban areas.
As for the 2010 Census PUMS that is supposed to be coming out now "March 2013-June 2013" but I haven't seen anything. I can provide the 2010 census tract to the new PUMA crosswalk if that will be helpful?
I'll follow-up with the Census Bureau to see if I can get an update.

Subject: [CTPP] Census 2010 data available at the new PUMA level?
Hello all:
I have a question on the availability of Census 2010 (short form) data. Hopefully someone on the list, or Census Bureau staff, can enlighten me.
I need Census 2010 "short form" data at the new, 2010 PUMA level. I can't seem to find that geographic summary level (PUMA) (for decennial 2010) on the American Factfinder site.
It appears that the new 2010 PUMAs are indeed included in the "2012 TIGER" files, but the schedule is a "to be determined" in terms of incorporating the new PUMAs with the decennial and ACS data products... (see: http://www.census.gov/geo/reference/puma_schedule.html) (I'm also trying to figure out what's a "Decennial (2010) PUMS file" ....)
Should I wait for the 2010 PUMAs to be integrated into the American Factfinder? Or, should I get the tract-level data and aggregate the data using tract-PUMA equivalency files and statistical software? I think the answer will be to get the tract data, and aggregate to PUMA....
Thanks in advance

Thanks Elaine for sharing.
Along the same lines, ARC with Georgia Tech University recently put together a rather comprehensive transportation planning data "game", which was so successful that it is now copyrighted to ARC. See below for more details, and a link to download the game:

Subject: [CTPP] Test your knowledge of population, using Census Game "Bracketology"
One of my FHWA friends passed this Census game along, in case you haven't found it yet.
Population Bracketology (appropriate for March Madness) based on population data-Metro or State. It is a fun and an
interesting way to learn more about relative metro or State populations. Your correct responses are in green and mistakes
show up in bright red.

I am a supporter of using gamification in transportation planning applications. I would like to see more experimentation on using these kinds of techniques for studying mode choice and trip/activity planning.
