Aside from the release of the CTPP data on CD - are there any plans to have it accessible via an FTP server? Serving up the raw data that we can process ourselves without the need of the CTPP tool?

The most important things to remember are:
(1) create a folder on your hard drive for where you want to store your CTPP work
(2) change the DATA path to d:/ (2 digit state abbreviation), e.g. d:/CA where d: is the CD drive , and California is the state;
(3) change the SESSION path to the location you created in step 1 above.
and (4) "create a session" in the browser.

Greetings from hot Southern Colorado,
I am wanting to do address geocoding using Census TIGER line files, and I am
not sure what will be the easiest, most efficient, most cost-effective
method.
As far as available resources, I have access to ArvGIS 8.2, and Arcview 3.1.
Can anyone at least outline steps that I might use to accomplish this. I
have been informed that ArcGIS has a Tiger reader extension, that converts
TIGER data to shapefiles.

The Commerce Department's Census Bureau today released new housing and
journey-to-work data for 13 metropolitan areas. The 2002 American
Housing Survey, sponsored by the Department of Housing and Urban
Development, includes statistics on such journey-to-work topics as mode
of transportation, departure time for work, travel time and distance
from home to work. Also included is information on housing topics: for
example, presence of refrigerators, microwaves and air-conditioning;
number of rooms; housing deficiencies.
Note: This is not the CTPP data and according to the Census Bureau
staff the 2002 AHS tables should be posted sometime next week. Complete
information on the AHS including data from the previous years can be

The 10 of the 13 areas included in the 2002 survey that I could identify
were Dallas, Buffalo, Anaheim-Santa Ana, San Diego, Riverside-San
Bernardino-Ontario, Charlotte, Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Kansas City,

Elaine Murakami brought to my attention that the most current TRB E-letter (which I don't receive) made a reference to the CTPP, which gave readers an impression that CTPP is BTS' product. The exact wording in the news letter is "The Bureau of Transportation Statistics' Census Transportation Planning Package is available now." This, of course, is wrong.
Tom Bolle, who is BTS' TRB representative, helped me to contact the editor of the E-news letter. We found out that what happened was an honest mistake made by him. When he browsing through BTS web site, he saw the CTPP 1990 CD download (in zipped form) site. He assumed that CTPP was BTS' produce and included it in the news letter without checking with us. He has promised to correct it right away.
I sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding that this error might have caused.

On Friday, June 27th the Oregon CTPP Part one's were mailed to the
Oregon MPOs and state DOT by the Census Bureau. Oregon was used as the
test data for the software development. It is expected that the
California CDs will be mailed Monday. In the queue are Texas, New York,
Florida and New Jersey. MPOs in these states and the state DOTs should
expect to see their data before July 11th. As more states get in the
processing queue and are completed, the CTPP Working Group will post the
